On Sunday, October 26th, the congregation officially voted to call Vicar Christine Jeanette Pelfrey as the next Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, marking a joyful and prayerful close to a thoughtful search process. The long-anticipated “call” becomes official as Pastor-elect Christine prepares to step into her role at the start of Advent.
Call Committee meetings with Christine revealed a strong sense of call as a minister of Word and Sacrament — she believes everyone has a seat at God’s table. She also describes herself as a “Matthew 25 preacher,” — leading from the heart and challenging disciples to live out faith through service and justice for those on the margins.
A Master of Divinity graduate from United Lutheran Seminary (Gettysburg, PA) with a B.A. in Theology from Sacred Heart University, Christine brings both academic and real-world ministry experience. She’s been serving a productive “rookie season” as Vicar at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hartford, where she’s taken regular preaching reps, offered pastoral care, organized community partnerships with local faith leaders, and expanded Emanuel’s welcome and outreach. Congregants report that her sermons “stick with you all week” — a hallmark of a pastor who connects both head and heart.
Christine is described as warm, relational, and grounded — a true leader who knows how to build up a congregation. She’ll invite people to, “Come in and pull up a chair,” which captures her pastoral style: open, inviting, and centered on listening deeply. She’s known for empowering others to use their gifts, strengthening both the church’s lineup and its mission in the wider community.
Pastor-elect Christine officially takes the pulpit November 30th — the first Sunday of Advent.
